Artist Statement

I create mid-sized (16 × 20 in) up to large (30 × 40 in) paintings in oil and acrylics that depict reflected light on water, sky and shore, inspired by the ever-changing colors and sunlight of the waters and wetlands of the Great Lakes.

I am drawn to places where land and water meet—where marsh grasses move in the breeze, reflections dissolve into the surface of the lake, and distant horizons seem to disappear into light. I have a deep interest in depicting this at times fragile ecology, with the awareness that it may not be with us forever, and to communicate not just how it looks, but to express the stillness, freedom and sense of possibility I experience along the water, whether walking through a soft mist, to viewing an amazing sunrise or sunset, or viewing the lake when snow blankets the shores. I want you to experience these same feelings: serenity, joy, freedom. and invite you when viewing them to slow down, enter that quiet space, and experience their own sense of connection, memory and wonder.
